Along the stretch of coast between Marbella and Málaga can be found perhaps the most famous resorts of the Costa del Sol, in terms of fame they would rank a close second to Benidorm.
Torremolinos and Fuengirola, together with Benalmadina and Calahonda are the towns by the sea and just inland is the tourist version of ‘real Spain’ being the whitewashed village of Mijas.
Torremolinos is probably the most famous of the resorts due to the fact that it was
the first town in this area to be developed for tourism and it definitely lead the
area's tourist boom of the 1950's and 1960's. Originally a fishing village, as were
most towns on the Costa del Sol, Torremolinos is now a large resort, with many high-
Fuengirola is probably most famous for its five miles of sandy beach and wide promenade. A recent landscaping drive by the local municipality has created beautiful gardens with palm trees, interspersed with colourful flowerbeds.
Benalmadena is a delightful little town and is full of narrow, winding streets, flower bedecked balconies and whitewashed houses, making it a beautiful example of a Spanish seaside resort.
Just 20 minutes from the international airport at Malaga, Calahonda is positioned between Marbella and Fuengirola. Calahonda is one of the largest and most prestigious developments of the Costa del Sol. Since its foundation in 1963, Sitio de Calahonda has grown into a marvellous residential centre with excellent shopping and entertainment facilities.
