The Costa Calida stretches 250 kilometres from El Mojon in the North to La Carolina in the South.
The coastline in this region, Murcia, is rich in contrasts and is full of surprises. Lovely stretches of beach, pretty rocky coves and lush greenery set against a backdrop of beautiful mountains.
Served by Murcia airport this region
is largely a holiday destination for the
Spanish and is only just beginning to
be developed. Hopefully, lessons have
been learned and the area may yet
escape being concreted over.
To make the most of a visit to this
region, a car is recommended, that is
unless you are planning to spend your
holiday on the beach.
The roman town of Cartagena with its busy Marina and port is well worth a visit and just to the north of here is the Mar Menor, a huge lagoon almost cut off from the sea by La Manga strip.
Mar Menor is a favourite with watersports enthusiasts and has good beaches for children due to its having hardly any waves breaking on the shore.
Popular resorts around this area include Los Alcazares in the lagoon and La Manga on the thin barrier with its beaches either side.
The Costa Calida is also the location of the fantastic Polaris World golf resorts.
