COSTA AZAHAR

The Costa Azahar or ‘orange blossom coast’ is situated in the Castellón area, the most northerly part of the Valencia autonimous region

The coastal strip quickly climbs into a fairly mountainous interior, more mountains than flat plains, and is a nice area for those who like to venture away from the beaches and explore.

The coastal strip itself is green and popular with orange growers whose orchards dot the countryside between sea and mountains.

Due to long coach transfer times, the

Costa Azahar is not as popular with

the package holiday industry as the

Costa Blanca so tends to be quieter

and English not as widely spoken.

Indeed, the summer population is

more likely made up of holiday home

owners than tourists. This in itself can

make a holiday in this region well

worth the drive.

Perhaps the best known resort along this coast is Peniscola in the north. Further to the south, in fact south of Valencia, can be found the towns of Oliva and Gandia. Both towns are split into old inland and newer resort parts. Gandia has a few  more higher rise buildings than Oliva and both are popular destinations for Spanish holidaymakers.
